You've Said:
For the last couple of weeks I have had the pleasure of staying at the excellent Northumberland Cottage.
I travel across the UK with my work and have stayed in literally hundreds of B&B's, and the majority could learn a lesson or three from this one.
From the minute I arrived the excellent and generous host, Ricky, was welcoming, polite and extremely helpful. Ricky's local knowledge made my life much easier during the working day. My work took to me to many of the local areas including Morpeth, Rothbury and many more, all of which were easily accessible from the Cottage, which has superb links to the A1.
The rooms are all spacious, clean and comfortable, with excellent bathroom facilities.
The Breakfasts were super, with the local produce surpassing any supermarket alternative.
Northumberland Cottage stands out to me as one of the friendliest and most welcoming B&B's I have had the fortune to visit. I would be more than happy to stay the next time I am in the area.
This B&B is just off the A1 south of Alnwick.
It looks unprepossessing but it is a classic B&B. Excellent beds in a well appointed room, really well cooked, fresh breakfast and a characterful host.
Now I've returned to Leeds , I'm able to take the time to say a big "Thank you" for being such an excellent host last week.
I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of my stay at Northumberland Cottage and you will certainly be the first person I contact the next time I want to come up to that area. The location is easy to reach and very pleasantly situated in its rural setting: my room was well- appointed with attractive
furniture, (especially the dresser under the tea tray), not the usual bland B & B stuff. The TV had all my favourite channels on it, with the digi-box and the welcome tray was....well...welcome! The en-suite , like the bedroom, was clean, had plenty of room and the kind of shower that was easy to manage .
You were a very helpful host, both from the material you provided in leaflets and the bedroom file and also personally. I particularly appreciated your directions to the Coastal Route and also that you took the trouble to book me a table at the Widdrington Inn. I should just have turned up and found it full, otherwise.
I also particularly enjoyed my breakfasts! At home, I just have cereal and juice but like to treat myself to something more on holiday and I wasn't disappointed! I set off on my excursions well set up for the day!
I enjoyed our conversations and hope to see you again in the not-too-distant future. Northumberland has a great deal more to offer and I barely scratched the surface though I thoroughly enjoyed what I did see. (I'll try and time it before the puffins leave, though, next time!)
Thank you again and my best wishes to you for the future. I hope you won't be too exhausted by the end of the season and can enjoy a break. You'll certainly have deserved one!
England's northernmost county, Northumberland is large. Apart form
its industrial south-east corner, it is a predominantly rural
area, as yet little known by visitors and tourists.
Whatever your interests, Northumberland holds something to
attract you, whether it be for a long weekend break, away from the
hustle and stress of daily life, or for a long, leisurely break.
Pre-history, Roman history, Medieval history - from the Iron
Age to WW2, history abounds in Northumberland.
