Ramblers, cyclists, golfers or fishing enthusiasts will find plenty to explore. Wildlife sanctuaries can be found at Newton, Hauxley or the infamous Farne Islands. Long sandy beaches, ideal for walking or just relaxing can be found the length of the Northumberland coast line.
Along with the extensively refurbished gardens at Alnwick castle I understand that the new attraction for 2005 will be the massive tree house which the Duchess has created at one end of the garden not only for fun but educational features have been built into the house to help children learn as they go around.

 Alnwick and Alnwick Castle Alnwick is one of the most picturesque areas of countryside in the whole of England. In the heart of Northumberland, it is blessed with long sandy beaches, quiet friendly villages, the Simonside and Cheviot hills and well preserved medieval Castles. Alnwick Castle, "The Windsor of the North", is one of the most famous and was used as Hogwarts School in the popular film series of Harry Potter. It is home to the Duke of Northumberland and is well worth a visit. Alnwick is only 15 minutes from Northumberland Cottage! |
